Providing affordable single-family home ownership:
- Purchasing abandoned or deteriorating single-family homes and renovate them for affordable sale to first-time homebuyers;
- Guaranteeing that families are able to prepare for purchase by coordinating with other service organizations.
- Facilitating open access to financing, offering as collateral quality renovated housing, a sound investment for both families and financial institutions
Providing development consultant services to community and tenant organization:
- ensuring that apartments, neighborhood open spaces and community multi-use and service areas can also be maintained for existing populations
- serving as development consultant to tenant associations and other non-profit organizations undertaking multi-family property purchases, assisting and overseeing the renovations of their building
- providing consulting services to non-profit organizations that own or want to own and preserve their space, supervising projects through completion
- working with tenant groups to increase long term capacity to own and manage their own buildings
Accomplishing:
- Revitalization of an important stock of affordable homes and community spaces, thus enhancing and maintaining the diverse social and economic character of D.C. neighborhoods.
- Preservation of over 73,000sq.ft. of renovated open and multiple use community service space.
- Prevented the displacement of over 700 people from the area:
- 250 accessed quality single-family homeownership for the first time.
- 450 are tenants, empowered to purchase and rehabilitate their own buildings.
- 15 are challenged individuals for whom complete one room attached units have been renovated.
- All fall within low/moderate income levels.
- Created multiple jobs in housing trade, including development of two successful local minority contractors.
- Participated in broader, multi-cultural, public and private citywide collaborative development efforts.
- Served on various boards and commissions, including the Board of Commissioners of the District of Columbia Housing Authority. |
